Bardolino

Bardolino is a wonderfully laid back and picturesque resort overlooking the widest part of the lake and in the evening time, the charming old town comes to life with an abundance of cafés, restaurants and bars to choose from.

Bardolino is a wine lovers paradise as the area is perhaps best-known for its wine made from the grapes grown in the surrounding hillsides. The thriving wine industry here means that there are many wineries and bars holding wine tastings throughout the year. Olive oil is also a way of life here, as it is throughout Italy, and you can see why during a visit to the olive oil museum at nearby Cisano di Bardolino, south of the town.

There is a host of laid back and relaxing activities to keep you busy during the days here. Renting a bike and cycling through the resort, is one of the best ways to explore the natural beauty of the area with its green hills, rich with vineyards and olive groves. Or take a leisurely stroll through the town itself, which is flat and very easy to walk around. Shopping here is also a real treat, with some lovely shops selling everything from leather goods to perfume and some good deals on designer clothing. The Thursday morning market offers good value wine and olive oil, not to mention its bustling, friendly atmosphere.

The pretty old town of Bardolino, with its lakeside promenade, offers something for every taste, especially after the sun sets. The wealth of small bars and cafés are wonderful places to meet up and watch the hustle and bustle of the lanes and squares. Many shops are open until midnight, a good opportunity for shopping and strolling after an undoubtedly excellent dinner and a sampling of the local wines.
